Billie Rooney

Billie is a children’s writer whose picture book Creature Corridors (2025) is published by CSIRO Publishing. She writes both fiction and non-fiction picture books, as well as middle grade books for children. Her books feature children’s joyful, curious and magical encounters with the world. In 2024, Billie was awarded runner-up in the non-fiction Picture Book category in the 2024 CYA Conference competition.

When she is not writing, Billie works as a lecturer in early childhood and environmental education. She has written several articles, book chapters and a book on young children and climate change. Through this work she loves to share her passion for the environment with aspiring preschool and primary school teachers. Seeking any excuse for an adventure, she can often be found rock-hopping along rivers, climbing mountains, or exploring narrow winding paths. Billie lives on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country/Canberra, Australia.
